Mox Ruby [Alpha PSA Pop 9]

Grading

Overall       PSA 10 GEM MINT

This particular copy is graded a perfect PSA 10 Gem Mint and a very clean example that would probably grade a BGS 9.5 quad.

Rarity & Collectability

The alpha Mox Ruby is not particularly difficult to find in BGS Gem Mint or higher with 29 copies graded, 2 copies graded at BGS 10 and 9 copies in PSA 10.

Impressions & Artwork

The Mox Ruby is one of my favorite artwork of the five Moxen.  The blood red gemstone is painted with clean cut lines separating the light and dark colored sections.  The setting is gold medallion with a marbled background of grey, black, orange and red.

Usage & Gameplay

The Mox Ruby is part of the Power 9 because of its reusable mana ramp source that costs nothing to bring into play.  It is also used to cast some of the most iconic red cards in the game's history: Lightning bolt, Fireball and Wheel of Fortune.

I have had over 100 Moxen in my life from the entire spectrum. My first Mox Ruby I bought for $55 was an unlimited with a small tear midway through the card & awful creased upper-right corner which i actually loved because I would play with black-backed sleeves so it was not marked. Of all the Moxen, I welcome anybody to challenge me on this point, the Ruby is the most valuable in regards to game play as it opens the door to fork, wheel fortune, lightning bolts, fireballs on the first and second term enabling damage and reset-ability early on against your opponents fiercest start. If you feel there is a Moxen that has higher intrinsic game play value make your case and if you say Emerald we will listen to your points but Pearl & Jet while beautiful cards are not most powerful in regards to optionality & escapability at the professional, high-stakes tournament level.
